Medals of Merit

The Medal of Merit from Finland Chamber of Commerce is the Finnish business community's way of recognizing long and faithful service. The medal of merit is a beautiful and highly regarded recognition - even for a life's work. The Finnish business community has awarded medals of merit as an encouragement to employees and entrepreneurs since 1929. Medals are awarded to employees of enterprises or economically active organizations, self-employed persons and persons elected to positions of trust. Recipients can also work for Finnish-owned companies abroad.

Bronze medals are granted after 10 and 15 years of service and silver medals after 20 and 25 years. Gold-plated silver or 18 carat gold medals provide recognition for 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and even 75 years of work.

The Medal for Life´s Work is awarded for 20 or 30 years of work in the service of the business world. The career of those who are granted the Medal for Life's Work may consist of employement in the service of several employers.

The Medal for Extraordinary Achievement can be awarded to a person only once for an extremely significant act for the benefit of an enterprise or for distinguished conduct in a crisis situation facing the enterprise.

The Medals of Merit are based on legislation. The Medals are worn at important occasions such as patriotic events, reseptions arranged by the employer and family celebrations. The medals can be worn together with other state medals and honours. Each medal is accompanied by a miniature medal and certificate. The miniature medal is meant to be worn daily.
